The Magic Of Deers

Do you ever see wild animals?

I live in an area where I get to see quite a few deer. I could always see more, but I see a lot. Deer are beautifulIt’s funny they tend to mirror the energy of my spirit. Sometimes I will see a family of deer feeding along a trail. I may see two majestic looking buck’s eating apples off my small tree, or a doe and just her babies grazing the shrubs. However, every time I see them, they speak to me.

As a spiritual totem, deers symbolize fertility, facing fears, and seemingly show up when you need to receive unconditional love. I’ve often seen deer at times in my life that I’ve felt alone, or had no one to talk to, and when I needed that love in my life. They especially show up when I felt confused and their presence provided clarity.

Deer are filled with magic and wonder.

The Lakota have a story about a Deer Woman whom they refer to as Anukite. Anukite shows up to protect women and children against harmful men. She may show up as part deer and part woman, or just having deer feet. She represents both the moral and immoral side of sexuality and can inflict vengeance on wrongdoers or cause them to lose their minds when they encounter her sexually.

Native American tradition has some interesting connotations to spirit in reference to deer. Deer also play a role in Buddhism as it represents man’s connection to nature and receiving information Here are some of those ways:

The Buddha’s first teaching

The Buddha first taught the four truths of the aryas at Deer Park near Sarnath, India. This event is represented by a deer and a dharma wheel.

Coexistence with nature

The Buddha is considered a paragon of man’s coexistence with nature.

The Jataka Tales

Deer are often featured in the Jataka Tales, which are parables about the Buddha’s previous incarnations. For example, in the King Banyan Deer Jataka, the Buddha is reborn as the golden deer king.

Whatever your experience with deer are, they remain a powerful symbol of love, life and fertility. They come to you when you need them and serve as a powerful reminder to pay attention to the abundance of life.

Here is a beautiful deer story to share with your family. This still happens today—the beautiful conversation between man and animal. If you are still enough and quiet enough you can feel it.
